American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed into law on February 17, 2009. The Act includes multiple provisions that present opportunities for energy efficient building and renovations.

This $787 billion Recovery plan includes federal tax cuts and incentives, an expansion of unemployment benefits, and other spending on social entitlement programs. In addition, federal agencies are using Recovery funds to award contracts, grants, and loans around the country.

Includes the following energy efficient applicable funds:

  • Federal, State, Municipal New Construction Projects
  • Retrofitting/Renovations of Existing Federal, State and Municipal Facilities
Government LEED Certification Government LEED® Certification
There are multiple LEED® Certification initiatives including legislation, executive orders, resolutions, ordinances, policies, and incentives. These initiatives are found in over 44 states, including more than 190 localities, more than 12 federal agencies or departments, more than 15 public school jurisdictions and nearly 30 institutions of higher education across the United States.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 also focuses on presenting opportunities for state and local governments to reduce energy and subsequently, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a result the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed numerous resources that can assist state and local governments.
